- We are a small and friendly 39-room Guest House overlooking the Bay of Funchal. The property opened in 1963 as Vila Camacho growing out of the family home. The original concept was to provide budget accommodation a traditional Madeiran warm welcome and good home cooking. The rooms were kept by my grandmother Isabel Rosa Camacho who was a professional cook. In 1986 the baton was passed to my father who was himself an accomplished hotelier in London for over 35 years. In 2004 I took ownership of the property together with my partner Helen and we opened the Flame Tree Restaurant.In our absence over the last couple of years the business lost its way.However the property is now under new management and has been re-named The Flame Tree Guest House after the restaurant. A welcoming and professional management team is now in place and an exciting young chef has just been appointed as we aim to return to our core values.
